EAPS 35 The Soil Resource

Soils are an essential yet underappreciated natural resource. This course will explore that essential nature. The first half of the course is focused at the landscape scale exploring the range of soil types in the US and worldwide and their relation to soil forming factors, soil physical properties, soil water capacity and flow, and the importance of organic matter in soil health and regenerative agriculture. The second half focuses on soil chemistry at the mineral, molecular and atomic level to explain landscape scale properties of soil fertility, soils acidity, soil salinity and erosion.
