HIST 31.02 Migrant Nation: Immigration and Racialization in the Making of the United States

This course examines immigration to the United States and how race was created alongside these histories. In what sense is the United States a “nation of immigrants,” and how did migration become so central to American culture and national identity? In addition to the movement of people to the United States, topics in this course include the creation of “whiteness” and ethnicity, state-building, documentation, deportation, activism, and the legal regime of citizenship.
