This course explores the United States' development as a global imperial power from the Civil War to World War II. Key topics include settler colonialism and warfare on the North American continent; the Wars of 1898, World War I, and World War II; U.S. colonialism in the Caribbean and the Philippines; economic and corporate imperialism; and Asian exclusion and immigration control.
