ENVS 80.22 Sustainable Futures

In this solutions-focused interdisciplinary course we will explore viable pathways to sustainable futures. We will gather weekly to share in environmental thought, discussion, in-class activities, and experiential learning. Field trips to local ecosystems, such as wildlands and built environments, will hone our observational skills and inform our critical and creative thought. There will be substantial work outside of class. I will ask you to read (e.g., fiction, creative nonfiction, philosophy, journalism, science), complete observational exercises, write (i.e., informal journaling and academic writing), and synthesize your thinking via design (i.e., multimodal creative expression). In class, I will invite you to share your work to support collaborative learning. In an integrative culminating team project, you will have the opportunity to co-design a piece of a viable, evidence-based sustainable future for a community in need. Together, we will advance our understanding of the environment and how to flourish in it.
