EEER 11.01 After Communism, Before Freedom: Post-Soviet Politics, Society, and Culture in Russia

Short Description: This course explores Russian politics, society, and culture after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 until the present day. We will define the key political institutions and public figures who shape and change our understanding of contemporary Russia. The course examines topics such as protest, diversity, environmental activism, mass culture and counterculture, among many others, through the analysis of Russia's recent political transformations, as well as the country's society and diverse media spheres.
