COSC 49.14 Algorithmic Foundations
A seminar course in which students—under faculty direction—discuss, present, and critique current or recent research in algorithmic foundations (also called “theoretical computer science”) as represented by top international conferences and leading journals in the area. Topics and structure will vary from term to term, but coursework will typically involve some combination of in-depth critical reading, written summarization, and oral presentations of research papers; formulation of new research directions suggested by papers studied; and instruction in all of these essential research skills.
