ARTH 43.03 Environmental Histories of Architecture
This course approaches the history of modern architecture through the lens of environmental history and politics. Rather than conceive of the environment as something external to architecture, the course examines how architects, historians, planners, and designers reckon with their mutual entanglement. Weekly themes will explore different historical frames for understanding the relationship between architecture and the environment, including geological and natural history, ecology, energetics, resource extraction, health, and waste.
