THEA 51 Playwriting II

A continuation of THEA 50: Playwriting I, this advanced course pushes writers to sharpen voice, expand genre, and refine process. Blending seminar, lab, and workshop, students explore contemporary forms—from comedy and drama to magical realism, horror, and sci-fi—while testing bold creative choices. Through dynamic readings, discussion, and fast-paced generative exercises, students write fearlessly and with intention. Emphasis is placed on developing a sustainable practice and a distinct theatrical vocabulary. Writers move from initial concept to a fully realized original play, supported by rigorous workshops and feedback, culminating in a polished draft that showcases both craft, originality, and artistic risk.
