New Undergraduate Course Supplement 2025

THEA 10.36 Acting Shakespeare: The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Students will be responsible for researching the social and cultural history of 1590’s England, Shakespeare’s use of language, and other topics touched on in The Two Gentlemen of Verona. The objective will be to use this research to write a complete and imaginative set of “The Nine Questions” in preparation for performing a monologue and a scene from the play. In class, students will be chosen at random (“the hot seat”) to share their research and observations. Students will be responsible for writing a first draft of “The Nine Questions” for their characters that will be turned in immediately prior to their first staging of monologue and the scene. They will then be responsible for refining their answers observations and submitting a final draft prior to the final staging of the monologue and scene.
