REL 2.03 Mindfulness & Healing in Southeast Asian Buddhism

Our course traces the rise of global mindfulness movements through their roots in Southeast Asian Buddhism. We analyze readings and films by monastics, scholars, and activists who have applied mindfulness and healing techniques from Southeast Asian Buddhism across international contexts since the 1940s. By embracing the expansive way mindfulness practitioners refer to “healing,” we examine applications of Southeast Asian Buddhism to issues spanning biomedicine and mental health, war, migration, anti-racism, environmental care, and spiritual recovery.
