GOVT 86.64 Political Economy of Social Change

How does social change happen, especially in the face of deeply entrenched interests? Why do some social movements succeed while others fail or languish? What strategies and tactics have proved most successful in changing public opinion on issues ranging from regulation to marriage equality? This course will examine a large variety of cases, from the Equal Rights Amendment to the regulation of carbon emissions.
