GERM 82.14 Topics in German Creative Writing: Kids Only? Writing Children's Literature (in German)
Children's and young adult literature doesn't enjoy a good reputation. Its authors aren't taken seriously, and their themes are supposedly not as profound as those of works written for adults. Sadly, this is especially true in Germany. Nevertheless, it is precisely these prejudices that have led to the creation of some of the most beautiful and best books (not only!) for children and young adults in Germany, from "Struwwelpeter" to "The Neverending Story" and "Inkheart." In this seminar, we will explore excerpts from these works and much more: We will learn how to write for children—not only in the realm of literature, but also in comics, film, and radio plays.
