MUS 9.02 Creativity Through Percussion
An introduction to percussion and creativity for students with little to no formal training. Students explore global percussive traditions from regions in African, South America, Japan, and Indonesia alongside contemporary percussion. Through hands-on drumming, deep listening, and creative collaboration, students gain new insights into their imaginative and musical potential. Engaging with text scores and group improvisation, the class fosters a communal and exploratory approach to music, reflecting the drum’s historical role as a tool for communication and connection.
