New Undergraduate Course Supplement 2024

CRWT 40.20 Writing the Young Adult Novel

This is an intensive reading and writing workshop for students interested in writing a novel aimed at young adult or middle grade readers.

During the term, we will discuss what the term “Young Adult” means in terms of literature. Are standards different for books for children and teens, as opposed to those written for adults? In fact, are we, as writers, charged with aiming our work at a certain audience in the first place? And if we are, do certain responsibilities come with that effort?
