THEA 50 Playwriting I
This course introduces the principles and practice of dramatic writing through the creation of an original one-act play. Blending lecture, lab, and workshop, students explore plot, structure, character, and dialogue while experimenting with traditional and nontraditional forms. Through creative exercises, scenario development, and individual conferences, students’ progress from initial idea to a complete first draft. Emphasis is placed on applying the playwright’s toolkit at every stage. The course culminates in an internal reading, where students hear their work aloud and refine it through feedback. Open to all experience levels. Limited enrollment.
