WGSS 57.02 Race, Gender, Sexuality and Artificial Intelligence
This course examines how race, gender and sexuality function as technologies of scientific thought, producing difference and power in Artificial Intelligence, cyberspace, and the metaverse. You will learn and apply critical lenses and key concepts offered by scholars in the fields of critical race theory, critical refugee studies, gender and queer studies, and performance theory towards your own intervention into a special topic/issue on AI intelligence. This course does not center expertise in the consumption, management or production of AI. Instead, we will develop a critical geography for critiquing the discursive formations of AI by engaging the how race, gender and sexuality continue to shape contemporary imaginaries of less than, non-, and post-human “participatory” actors in the realms of AI, machine learning, metaverse(s) and virtual reality.
