ANTH 50.10 Anthropology of War and Peace

“Have humans always fought and killed each other, or did they peacefully coexist until organized states developed?” This fundamental question frames important debates on the nature of human society. Topics ranging from local contexts, ethnicity, power, territorial partition, justice, domestic and international politics, collective security, justice and mediation will be examined. Using approaches grounded in cultural and political analysis, this course explores how individuals and communities cope with war and rebuild fractured lives and communities.
